Springtime on the Farm: A Celebration of British Beef and Fresh Beginnings
Spring has finally arrived at St Buryan Farm Shop, and with it, the farm is bursting back into life. The pastures are greening up, the sun is hanging a little longer in the sky, and the home reared cattle are back out grazing—exactly where they love to be. There’s something deeply satisfying about watching them roam the fields, tails swishing and heads down, munching on fresh, lush grass. This time of year reminds us just how connected we are to the land and the rhythms of nature.
It’s also a time for planting. The vegetable patch is officially back in business. Rows of potatoes, onions, carrots, and beans are going in—future meals growing from the soil, watered by April showers and warmed by the spring sun. It’s hard work, but there’s real joy in getting your hands dirty and dreaming about the harvest to come.
And speaking of food, this week is Great British Beef Week—a moment to shine a spotlight on British beef farmers and the incredible work they do year-round. From pasture to plate, it’s a celebration of high-welfare, sustainable farming and the natural goodness of grass-fed British beef.
British beef isn’t just about great taste—though it is naturally delicious. It’s also about supporting local farmers who care deeply about their animals and their land. These cattle spend most of their lives outdoors, grazing in the countryside, and it shows in the quality of the beef—rich, full of flavor, and perfect for springtime meals with family and friends.
So whether you’re tucking into a classic Sunday roast, firing up the BBQ for the season’s first steak night, or whipping up a hearty cottage pie, this week is the perfect time to raise a fork to British beef. It’s more than food—it’s tradition, community, and a connection to our farming roots. Pop over to St Buryan Farm Shop's butchery department for advice on cooking and serving our home reared Beef.
Happy Spring, and Happy Great British Beef Week!
